Before moving into research, I worked in patient care at a hospital in Mianyang, China, practicing traditional Chinese medicine. I went on to earn my PhD in auditory neurophysiology at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, studying how depolarizing inhibition shapes circuit development in the early postnatal period. My research now centers on the fundamental mechanisms of synaptic transmission and the functional role of lateral efferent fibers in hearing.
Fun fact: “I got into basic neuroscience because I was — and still am — obsessed with how the brain makes sense of sensory input.”
